WORK EXPERIENCE

Gema de la Calle is Partner at Mavens, leading the Tax Department, specialising in private wealth, family-owned enterprises, business restructuring and tax planning, both in Spain and overseas.

In 1998, she started her career in the Tax Documentation Department in the Centro de Estudios Financieros. By the year 2000, she started working for the Tax Department in Clifford Chance specializing in family business and corporate restructuring taxes, both in the national and international areas. She was the person in charge of evaluating the contingent liabilities of tributes in the due diligence proceedings and, at the same time, she gave advice to managers who were sent abroad and vice-versa.
During her stay in Clifford Chance (London) in 2005, she specialized herself in “Stock Options Plans”.

In 2006, she joined the Tax Department in Rodés & Sala, were she was assigned as the head of the Tax Department in the Madrid Headquarters. Being in charge of it, she specialized herself in tax advice to family groups and corporate restructuring, expatriate manager’s tax advising, as well as giving advice in real state transactions, both national and international.

In October 2008, she joined Mavens as the head of the Tax Department. She was promoted to partner in 2010 and she is specialized in Corporate and Individuals Taxation, corporate restructuring and tax planning, transfer pricing, tax consolidation, management incentive plans, inspections and tax proceedings.

Gema is in charge of Mavens International profile in the U.S. and LATAM and represents the firm in the Association BLITA INTERNATIONAL. Gema has been recognised for her strategic tax services on private wealth tax planning, complex tax structures and tax audits and for her successful outcome in tax litigation.

AWARDS

Gema was awarded the “Forty Lawyers Under Forty” prize, which rewards forty outstanding lawyers on the Iberian Peninsula in its 2011 edition. Gema has also been selected by Chambers and Partners since 2011 until now (11 years), on an uninterrupted basis, as a Leading Lawyer In Her Field in Tax Matters.
